Dr. Manoj

Director - Dr. Manoj Kumar

Dr Manoj Kumar, graduated from Calicut Medical College, Kerala and started training in Psychiatry over 25 years ago at the Christian Medical College, Vellore from where he gained the Diploma in Psychological Medicine (DPM) in 1988. He went on to train at the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi and completed his MD in Psychiatry in 1990. He then worked on the faculty of Christian Medical College, Vellore till 1994 during which time his clinical and academic focus was on the Psychiatric aspects of HIV and AIDS.

Dr Manoj Kumar moved to the UK in 1994 and gained the Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 1996. For the next 3 years, during his higher training, he started specializing in the Psychological problems faced by cancer patients. He joined the department of Liaison Psychiatry in the St James University Hospital, Leeds, UK as a Consultant in 2000 and worked there till returning to India in 2008. He was also attached to the University of Leeds as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer. He also served as the Director for Postgraduate Medical Education in Psychiatry for Yorkshire.

During his time in Leeds, he was instrumental in setting up a clinical Psycho-oncology service there. In later years, he focused on the Psychiatric aspects of Palliative Medicine and was involved nationally and internationally in research and training activities in this field. He was a collaborator in various research projects and co-authored papers in various scientific journals. He has been an office bearer of the British Psychosocial Oncology Society (BPOS) and a member of the International Psychosocial Oncology Society (IPOS).



Ms. Rekha

Clinical Psychologist and Head, Depatment of Clinical Psychology - Mrs. Rekha Bose, MPhil

Ms Rekha Bose gained her degree, MSc in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from the School of Behavioral Sciences, Kannur University, Kerala, India, following which she pursued her Mphil in Clinical Psychology, from Manipal University, Manipal, Karnataka, India. She is currently a PhD scholar at the VU University, Amsterdam.

Since October 1st 2009, she has been working with Mental Health Action Trust (MHAT). Ms Rekha Bose is also the in Charge of Psycho-social Rehabilitation. Apart from community mental health, her areas of interest in academics are psychotherapy, clinical training and supervision and research (area: Novel methods of delivering mental health care).

Ms Rekha Bose trains post graduates and interns in rehabilitation of people with chronic mental illness, post graduates in clinical psychology and lay health workers in Psychological interventions.

She is active in research as the main investigator in several projects and as the co-investigator and guide in others. She also has experience at the Department of Clinical Psychology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal as MPhil trainee and in the Government Mental Health Centre Trivandrum as an intern. Ms Rekha Bose was also involved in women empowerment programs in rural communities in the years 2003-2005. She had completed the Certificate course in Transactional Analysis and she conducted training classes on Transactional Analysis for rural women during the period of 2002 to 2006. She had conducted adolescent mental health programmes as part of Integrated Child Development Scheme, Malappuram.



Mr. Ajil

Psychiatric Social Worker - Research Fellow - Mr. Ajil K.

Ajil gained his degree in business management from Bharathiar University, Tamilnadu, following which he pursued his interest in Social work and was awarded with his masters degree in Social Work in Mental Health, from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Calicut. He has worked with various corporate houses like the Soorya Group of Companies, Palghat and Tata Consultancy Services E-Serve International Ltd, Chennai. However Ajil has been dedicating his skills as a Psychiatric Social Work Trainee in Mental Health Action Trust, Calicut in the recent years, in the course of which he prepared his dissertation in 'The Reasons behind Medication Nonadherence among People with Mental Illness: A Community Mental Health Perspective.'



Ms. Babinarani

Clinical Psychologist, Depatment of Psychology - Ms. Babinarani C.

Babinarani was awarded her Msc. In Clinical and Counseling Psychology from Kannur University. She has been working as a junior clinical psychologist in the MHAT clinics since 2011. Babinarani is also an UGC NET qualified faculty.
